Wind and Water Sports Park public comment period opens
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is accepting comments from the public on the Wind and Water Sports Venue Project. The commenting period will end on August 31, 2020.
The City has signed a lease agreement with a property owner and has been working towards developing a Wind and Water Sports Park. The design will include permeable parking spaces and a driveway. There will also be a laydown area for athletes to stage and set up their equipment before entering the water.
The park will increase access to the Laguna Madre while also reducing the damages to the wetland habitat. These habitats act as a crucial ecosystem to buffer the structures and Island from high tides and any major storm surge.
“The community is encouraged to participate in this public comment period,” said Kristina Boburka, Shoreline director. “This is a great opportunity for the community to demonstrate the need for the project as it will provide a dedicated bay access for wind and water sports.”
